chilly winter

snow snow snow.



the weather man said lake michigan was suppose to have 20ft waves. so we broke the civil emergency and drove to the lake. this is what we saw, no 20ft-ers but still an impressive sight.

weather changes

the winter cold has finally settled in. almost december and not even a flake, just cold.

as each season comes to an end and a new one begins i get restless. maybe this restlessness is acknowledgment of untapped creative energy. i haven't been 'creating' much these days though that doesn't speak for the numerous project ideas that float and cloud my head. it's time to buckle down and get to it.

in my restless moments i took to pilfering through my family's old photographs where i came across one of my favorite shots of my grandparents. i wish the back said what the occasion was that called for a corsage and top hat, maybe its best left for me to guess. either way, my grandparents were undeniably adorable. till i find an appropriate frame it will hang wedged in the corner of my mirror.

a day for a walk

again it has been some time since i've done one of these things...

today the sun felt both warm and cool, suppose that's the blessing of fall. the first week of september brought cooler weather and clouds. it was a welcomed change of pace.
i spent the better part of today day cleaning, rearranging and setting up my 'new studio space.' AND started a new painting! i'm continuing my senior show work and doing another lace piece, yeah before i get myself in a rut it is to be a gift for my aunt and uncle's 50th wedding anniversary.
the day was nothing short of perfect and i felt as if it had been wasted indoors. when the sky turned cadmium yellow it hit me, GET OUT OF THE HOUSE! so i grabbed the dog and my camera and went for a walk.

is it strange that even though the sky was such a beautiful color i only took pictures of pond muck?


and my four legged friend.

today reminded me how much i love to paint. my hand has missed my brushes more than i realized. so many new and old ideas are floating around my head. my journal is filling with these ideas, now is the time i put down the pen and pick up the brush.

doilies, like family portraits, add charm to living spaces and mark a personal history while creating a sense of familial warmth. handmade by the owner or given as a gift doilies represent a kind of remembered domesticity. the continuous thread in making a doily is much like the continuous line of a focused contemplative painting experience. my hope is to create handmade memories through a meditative painting process.

the reception went well. there was food, and talking and most of all art. i shared the evening with other young talents, Katie and Chris. Stephen was kind enough to document the evening, he did a great job.

it was stressful putting it all together, but in the end it was all worth it. felt great to have work i was excited about up on display. now that summer is here i have time to expand my ideas and continue making things!

i can't help but ask myself this seemingly simple question since my college graduation. now what? it is just two words, two loaded words. four year i've worked for this moment. and it passed. so now what? uh update this blog i suppose.
